The Beach Guide To San Diego

Want to relax on some of the best coastline in the US?

San Diego has over 70 miles of beautiful beach to explore and enjoy, I have picked out my 5 favourite beaches to recommend to you

La Jolla Beaches

Pronounced 'La-hoi-ah' this stretch of coast is visited by almost as many people as sea lions. featuring the beauty rocky cliff faces of La Jolla cove, this destination is a must see for any stay in San Diego. Featuring several beaches with a variety of surf conditions there is plenty to do before retiring to the amazing local restaurants nearby.

Windansea-

Small rocky beach, advanced surf, lifeguards on duty

La Jolla Cove-

Intermediate Surf, Children's pool with seals

La Jolla shores-

Beginner Surf, soft sandy beach

Blacks Beach-

Known far and wide by the free spirited people of San Diego, this secluded clothing optional beach features, soft sand, and waves great for surfing. Beneath the bluffs of Torrey pines, it is officially part of Torrey pines state park and the first nudist beach in the country. The surf to the beach is funnelled in by a submarine canyon, making it good for surfing but dangerous for any inexperienced swimmers.

I would recommend staying close to shore if you decide to take a dip. Look out for the dolphins that are known to ride the waves!

Pacific Beach

One of the finest gem's in San Diego, Pacific Beach or 'PB' as it's known to the locals is a fantastic stretch of California beach known for its excellent surf and relaxed atmosphere and used by all as the place to party on the beach!. Take a walk down the Crystal Pier and feel the boardwalk rock and grove with the motion of waves. After a day at the beach I recommend walking down to some of the local restraunts for a beautiful evening meal, PB has everything from fancy dining to a five guys burger place so you can't go wrong. Afterwards stay for the sunset and hope for a little bit of cloud in the sky for the sun to paint bright yellow and red before you head home
Mission Beach
Situated south of PB this beach rests on the eastern side of the sand Bar at the entrance to Mission Bay, while smaller than other beaches at only 2 miles long the beach and bay offers a full day of thrilling activities from Belmont park with its small theme park rides, the wave-house with an artificial wave machine, jet ski rides in the bay and sea world very close by.

The beach also offers areas for cookouts and bonfires at night using one of the cities fire pits. For a perfect bonfire night, head over to fiesta island in Mission Bay and set up camp on the south side near stony point for a great view of sea world's firework show at 9:45pm
Ocean Beach
This small Beach community is the most laid back of them all. Known for its small independent family run businesses and restaurants the local culture is both unique and charming! take a tour of the rock pools, or explore the community art murals for a breath of local culture.

Why not walk down to the bottom of the OB pier for lunch at the ocean beach pier cafe?
Lobster tacos and a cup of coffee on top of the waves!

Coronado Beach

Boasting history that extends back to the 1800's the beach is known best for the grand Hotel Del Coronado sitting proudly on the shore. With guests from the king of England to Whoopi Goldberg and white sand that glitters with the gold flakes of the mineral mica there is no doubt as to why this beach has been ranked as America's #1 Beach by Forbes.

Located on the Coronado island this beach is much quieter than most of the beaches with a calm surf to allow for a nice gentle swim, this beach is a personal favourite of mine for a sunny weekend!

Well, these are my favourite beaches! If you guys have your favourite things to do on a beach day let me know in the comments!
